BRIEF

How do you connect rural villages and coastal towns of Malta through a unique and compelling cultural theme? The answer we developed with the Culture Segment of Malta Tourism Authority was to build an intriguing video storytelling by comparing two very different artists: Mattia Preti and Caravaggio.

OUR SOLUTION

Even if the two artists had very different lives on the island, both left an unforgettable mark on its cultural heritage and were deeply linked with the local environment. The idea we proposed was to follow the footprints of both artists in order to create cultural itineraries to discover many of the island’s secret spots usually unnoticed by tourists.

By interviewing local experts, museum directors and art historians we  produced 6 videos, to delve into the artworks Caravaggio and Mattia Preti left on the island. All the videos were then integrated into the official Malta Culture Guide iPhone and Android app of the Malta Tourism Authority together with PDF maps for both Caravaggio and Mattia Preti itineraries. Panels with historical descriptions and QR Codes linked to the videos were installed in front of the churches and palaces related to the itineraries.

MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT

SUCCESS

The 6 videos, in Italian and English with French and German subtitles, were used for Malta online promotion and were selected for publication on two important Italian Museums websites, the Venaria Reale in Turin and the Museo Diocesano in Milan, thus expanding the cultural impact beyond the usual touristic media.

.

InvisibleStudio carried out interviews with experts on Caravaggio and Mattia Preti in the most professional way. The 6 videos produced were of a very high quality and they brought to life the works of the two masters. Moreover they compared the achievements of both artists when they worked in Malta and this further underlined their professional outlook..
